Latest Spring Hip Hop Releases

Summer is fast approaching and so are the summer anthems. Last week, we saw a whole slew of artists drop new music on Thursday and Friday that will have you anxious to cruise around care free with your windows down. Here's a quick rundown of songs that were released that you're sure to love.

“A$AP Forever” - A$AP Rocky (feat. Moby)

Fresh off his last single "Bad Company", which features new, up and coming rapper from Memphis, Blocboy JB, A$AP Rocky released a new single off his highly anticipated junior album, Testing which is due any week now.

The first part of the song starts out with Rocky's distinguishable, mesmerizing Harlem flow. In his verse, Meyers talks about the highs and lows of his rise to fame and of course his day one's that surround him, the A$AP Mob. After his verse, the song takes a complete 180 and slows down quite a bit- of which a sample from the song "Porcelain" by legendary artist, Moby, is featured. The sample provides a chaser for the fast-paced bars that were dropped in the first half of the song.

Along with the song, a video featuring visuals for the song was dropped on Thursday, April 5th, and is quite impressive rivaling the video Rocky dropped for his hit 2015 song "L$D." All in all, it is safe to say Rocky Season is upon us so buckle up and stay tuned for his upcoming album.

“Nice For What” - Drake

Drake dropped on Friday with his new song "Nice For What." Following his singles "Diplomatic Immunity" and the 11-week straight, chart-topping "God's Plan", Drake delivered a bonafide summer anthem for the ladies.

The track samples Ex-Factor", Ms. Lauryn Hill's hit song from her debut solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which provides some soul to the Murda Beatz produced instrumental and will have you moving your feet where ever you might hear it. The single encourages women to be confident with themselves no matter the amount hate they receive and also begs the question of why they should treat those type of men better than they treat themselves. Hence, the title of the song, "Nice For What".

Paired with the new single was a star-studded video graced with the likes of Olivia Wilde, Issa Rae, Tiffany Haddish, and many more. The visual also pictures Drake rollerskating in a ballroom which feels like a fitting setting to listen to the song. Drake has also said he is working on a new album so stay tuned for more Drizzy to come.

“Chanel” - Rae Sremmurd (feat. Pharrell)

Last, but certainly not least, we received another single off the highly anticipated Rae Sremmurd triple-album, SR3MM with a new track called "Chanel". The duo is starting to sound like they will deliver a great project once again. The track features a light touch from legendary artist and producer, Pharrell that complements Slim Jxmmi's pack-a-punch delivered verse. SR3MM is scheduled to release sometime this month and has a load of features from artists like Travis Scott and Zoe Kravitz. The two brothers will undeniably have the ears of all hip-hop fans listening attentively.
